Other worlds inspire me

Rosita and Gwynvyd

Seeing images at the most unexpected moments is something I still consider a miraculous experience and always enjoy.
As for myself, there are many keys that can open this magical gate to the other worlds; the Tarot, Astrology, I Tjing, Runes, and ancient cultures such as the culture of the Celts or the American Indians.
But also a book, a dream, a crystal or encountering a special person or animal can touch and inspire me.
I regard the beautiful landscape of our county, Drenthe, and our own garden with all its fascinating life forms as my strongest sources of inspiration.
Old trees for example are personalities, each of them with a face and a unique story.
Every plant knows its own fairy spirit and they all look very different.
In my studio all these impressions unlock the special atmosphere out of which images flow spontaneously from my mind into my hands.
Then my hands transform the images into works of art...
Silence and harmony are essential conditions to me in order to be able to create.
To me work is meditation.

Bran

Planetary forces
Spring 1999 I received a fantastic inspiration: a company of impressive characters appeared in front of my mind's eye. Extraordinary personalities, representing the planetary forces within our solar system. Fascinated by astrology right from childhood I consider it a great challenge to give these forces a face by means of ceramics and bronze. By studying astrology, I started to understand the strong effect of these forces on myself and our world. I am now able to recognize them and sometimes even use them.

Ceridwen

Ceridwen

The first one I created was Ceridwen, the Celtic moon goddess (bronze). From way back the moon is the symbol of the female aspect: mistress, mother and priestess. She is portrayed by me with the upside down rune "peorth" (= sexuality) on her robe. The form of a beaker thus appearing emphasizes the receptive principal.

Iguaçú

Iguaçú

Inspired by an intense spiritual experience near the Falls of Iguaçú in Brazil I created the bust Iguaçú. To me this bust is a paragon of earthly beauty and strength, "dressed" in mountains, rivers and oceans

Shao Lir

Shao Lir

Then, master Shao Lir, connected to Neptune made his entrance. He is a powerful guide helping us to handle the un aimed forces belonging to the planet Neptune.

Bran

Bran

Next Bran (Mars) arrived. This spiritual warrior has a lot to offer. He reminds us of the personal courage, willpower, endurance and the determination we need to fulfill our dreams.

Uranus

Uranus

November 2002 I completed Uranus, ruler over the astrological sign Aquarius and of great significance for the age of Aquarius.

There is still a long row of "planetary personalities" waiting for me to be portrayed.
When all of them (Venus, Mercury, Saturn, Jupiter, Cheiron, Sirius, Pluto) have been given a face in ceramic or bronze, it is my intension to bring them all together in one exhibition.
